Is your child struggling with confidence, emotional regulation, social or communication skills?

As a parent, you want your child to feel confident, connected, and empowered to handle life’s challenges. But sometimes, children face difficulties in areas like:
  • Shyness or low self-confidence
  • Managing stress and regulating emotions
  • Modulating their voice and tone
  • Expressing themselves clearly and effectively
  • Dealing with social anxiety or difficulty connecting with others
  • Experiencing behavioural challenges like misplaced anger, frustration, avoidance or withdrawal
  • Facing physical coordination issues, poor posture, a lack of strength and habitual movement patterns
  • Making and maintaining eye contact or relational focus
  • Lacking energy, motivation or shutting down in difficult situations
  • Establishing or respecting personal boundaries

These  struggles can feel overwhelming for both parents and children, but with the right support, they can be transformed. Voice Movement Therapy (VMT) offers a creative, embodied approach to help your child overcome these challenges, fostering a stronger sense of self and building essential skills for emotional regulation, communication and social connection.

I Offer VMT as a creative and embodied learning strategy, AN alternative pathway to Growth.

I work with children and teens, including those who have special education needs, using Voice Movement Therapy (VMT) to help them express themselves fully, gain confidence, and improve emotional and social skills. My approach is embodied, creative, non-judgmental and trauma-informed, focusing on the felt sense of self, which is key to developing resilience, emotional intelligence and a strong sense of personal identity.

WHY THE VMT APPROACH WORKS…

VMT IS DIFFERENT

X

Rooted in the neurological connection and developmental importance of the innate relationship between thinking, feeling and expressing, VMT is the only therapy that uses the channel of the embodied voice as a therapeutic tool.

X

VMT IS CREATIVE AND PLAYFUL

X

VMT opens a creative space where improvisation and trying things out can lead to new ways of feeling and understanding. Engaging creativity and imagination helps children to feel safe, self-resourced and empowered as they explore new ways of being in and relating to the world. They learn that there are alternatives and that they have a choice.

X

VMT IS NON-JUDGEMENTAL

X

In the therapeutic relationship there is no pressure for your child to be “perfect” or conform to any particular external standard. VMT offers a container where children are invited to explore, express, and grow without fear of judgment, failure or shame. There are no wrong sounds, no expressions that are too much or too little.

X

VMT IS HOLISTIC AND EMBODIED

Our sense of self is created through the experiences of our body, and our identity and inner experience is expressed through our movement and voice. VMT provides a strong foundation for emotional and communication development because it works through integrating the very aspects that make us who we are.

expressive arts therapy in the world

When words are not enough, expressive arts therapies offer a progressive solution. Like Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, Dance Movement Therapy and Music Therapy, Voice Movement Therapy (VMT) is an expressive arts therapy.

X

The field of expressive/creative arts therapy is growing globally and is increasingly recognised as a successful and valuable approach, often succeeding where traditional approaches have fallen short. In places such as UK, USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, Singapore and other parts of Asia, expressive arts therapy is being prescribed by doctors and suggested by psychologists and other therapists.

It is offered in schools and remedial therapy centres, as part of community and youth development programs, in drug and psychiatric rehabilitation centres, in prisoner rehabilitation programs and refugee centres, in wellness resorts and even in corporate organisations.

A New Approach With A Big Impact

Voice Movement Therapy (VMT) is a creative and embodied approach that integrates movement, connection to breath, voice and image to help children to connect with their inner selves, to find their voice and to discover alternative ways of expressing themselves.

X

Many parents may not realise just how crucial embodied or felt experiences are for their child’s development, especially for children with special needs. When words alone don’t fully communicate what a child is feeling or experiencing, engaging with the body through movement, breath, voice and image offers a profound way to work with emotions and behaviours. In this way the VMT approach can lead to real transformation, creating a solid foundation for growth and progress.

X

Rather than focusing solely on “fixing” behaviours or problems, Voice Movement Therapy works creatively from the inside out. Instead of emphasising a child’s challenges, VMT begins with their strengths and creative potential. Imagination plays a central role in this process. By supporting your child in becoming more aware and comfortable in their body, and encouraging them to express themselves freely, we help build a stronger sense of self. This grounding helps lay the foundation for achieving developmental and therapeutic goals, fostering emotional regulation, social connection, effective communication and confidence in ways that traditional methods may not be able to.

X

VMT works because it takes a holistic approach, focusing on the child’s creative and expressive potential. It empowers your child to connect with their body, voice, and emotions in a safe and nurturing environment. Through VMT’s embodied learning strategies, your child can develop the self-awareness, confidence, and resilience they need to thrive in both relationships and everyday life.

Voice Movement Therapy is an effective way to support your child’s emotional, social, and physical development. Here’s how it works:

  • Builds Confidence & Self-Expression: Through movement and voice, your child will find new more effective ways to express their emotions and thoughts, leading to greater confidence in social interactions.
  • Enhances Emotional Regulation & Self-Awareness: I help children learn how to recognise, manage, and express their emotions in healthy and creative ways.
  • Improves Communication Skills: By developing vocal awareness and physical expression, your child will gain the ability to communicate more clearly and effectively, both verbally and non-verbally.
  • Develops Social Skills: VMT provides children with tools to engage more comfortably with others, helping them navigate social situations with confidence and empathy.
  • Strengthens Coordination & Body Awareness: Movement sequences, breathwork and bodywork help improve motor skills, posture, and spatial awareness thus building physical confidence, coordination and connection.
  • Transforming negative experiences into something more positive. The creative and embodied expression of pain, anger, grief, or shame allows such emotions to find external form and a way for these difficult emotions to flow out of the body.

Children and teens who engage in Voice Movement Therapy:

  • Feel more grounded and confident in social interactions.
  • Are more expressive and clear in their verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Are less anxious or fearful in new of challenging situations.
  • Are better able to manage their emotions and navigate difficult experiences.
  • Are more connected to others, more empathetic and emotionally intelligent.
  • Have more agency and choice.
  • Experience more freedom of expression without fear or shame.
  • Experience a sense of self mastery.
  • Improve their ability to assert and respect boundaries.

Note: This way of working goes hand-in-hand and works synergistically with other therapies. It does not take the place of psychotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy or other avenues of support. VMT offers a sometimes vital bridge between the inside experience and the outside world. We work in an integrated way with the body, breath, affect and the voice to create this bridge – when this foundation is created the client is able to develop and progress with other therapies with more ease and often with quicker success I’m here to help your child feel more confident, connected, and empowered to navigate the world with ease.
